Family Engagement

Family Engagement in schools is a shared responsibility in which schools and other community agencies and organizations are committed to reaching out to engage parents in meaningful ways, and the parents are committed to actively supporting their children's and adolescents' learning and development.  Such engagement is essential for school improvement. It is also increasingly recognized as an integral element for proficient practice as an educator.  (Harvard University)

At the East Haven Adult Learning Center we believe the strength found in each family is built upon a foundation of shared responsibility where every family member is an essential component to the overall success of the whole.  With this goal in mind, we hope to share the resources we have to promote both literacy and engagement to all who wish to partake.  Not only do we provide the educational components of reading, numeracy, and high school completion, we also provide foundational blocks in personal growth for mom or dads' in our Circle of Security sessions, weekly playgroups with the Family Resource Parent Educators, Music Together series, Father's Matter group seminars, Art to Heart night's, numerous financial and banking bootcamps, work with the American Job Centers and assistance in post-secondary classroom attainment.  Our Family Engagement Coordinator, Daniel Resto, will help all who wish to take part in our programs.
